Homecoming News, September 2017

President’s Message

ONCE A WAMPUS CAT, ALWAYS A WAMPUS CAT . . .

Greetings, Wampus Cat Fans!

The kids are in school, and Friday night football is underway.  In Leesville the early mornings are bringing a hint of coolness, and in the blink of an eye it will be October, which can only mean one thing--LHS HOMECOMING 2017.

It’s the year we celebrate the “7’s”: 1947, ’57, ’67, ’77, ’87, ’97, 2007, and 2017. Since early January your Alumni Association and class reps have been quietly at work behind the scenes planning and prepping for another awesome event.  If you haven’t been to Homecoming in the last couple of years, you are in for a couple of surprises.  The Alumni Board felt it was time to shake things up a bit and has made several changes, which have been well-received.

The traditional BBQ lunch has moved from the City Park to historic downtown Leesville.  The Cattlemen’s Association grills fresh burgers, and live music is played by various bands that include LHS alumni. This cookout was a huge success last year, and we are already planning for more people, more food, and more music!  Be sure to plan on being downtown on Saturday, October 14, at 11:00 for the fun and fellowship.

Another twist on an old favorite has been the revival of the LHS Alumni Dance.  This year it will be held on Friday night at Saint Michael’s from 8-12. We have an AMAZING DJ from Lafayette with extensive experience and incredible reviews so be sure to check out his website www.digitalmusicservices.  We will soon post a form on the website to request songs.  Stay tuned for more info on the Alumni dance.

From Thursday night class socials through the golf tournament at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, there are lots of opportunities to reconnect with classmates.  If you are not already a member of the LHS Alumni Association, please consider joining.  Membership dues help us continue to make this the “best homecoming in the world” in addition to providing college scholarships to graduation seniors.  We are all working hard and are eagerly looking forward to an amazing LHS Homecoming 2017, so mark your calendars for Oct 13-14.  If you have any questions, feel free to call, email, or message us on Facebook.  GO WAMPUS CATS!

Homecoming Schedule

Friday, October 13, Coffee and Meet and Greet, Leesville High School, 8:00 a.m.

Assembly after the coffee, where the homecoming queen and court will be presented, the football team will be introduced, the alumni will present the 2017 Hall of Fame inductee, the 7 classes will perform skits, and a pep rally will fire up the team and the student body.

The Alumni Luncheon will be held at the First Baptist Church CLC immediately after the assembly.  Tickets are available at the morning coffee or at the door.  All who have attended the luncheon have had a great time—good food, awesome door prizes, informal fun and fellowship, and introduction of the Alumnus of the Year.  You will truly enjoy the luncheon.  The silent auction will be held at the luncheon.  Wendy had many noteworthy items for the auction last year and lots of excited buyers.

Parade is at 3:00.  The line-up will be given out at the luncheon.

After the parade, there will be a memorial service at the First Christian Church, remembering deceased classmates of the 7s (this is sponsored by the church, not by the alumni association).

Presentation of the 2017 Hall of Fame inductee will be at 6:45 at Wampus Cat Stadium.

Football game (opponent is Grant HS) at 7:00.

Alumni Dance at St. Michael’s Center at 8:00 (see Cindy’s note above).

Saturday, October 14, Cookout downtown, 11:00 a.m. (again, see Cindy’s note). The food is great; the bands are definitely worth hearing.  You’ll be glad you participated in this.

News from the Honored Classes
