Homecoming News, February 2018

President’s Message

Greetings, Wampus Cat Fans!

The LHS Alumni Association executive board met on January 25, with the following members present: President Ray Ortiz, Vice-president Charles Owen, Secretary Angie Smith Magee, and Treasurer Gene LaCaze; Committee Chairs Cindy Wann-Jeane, Susie Knapp Neubert, Carol Karamatic Hurst, Tresa Taylor Abramson, and Trey Dowden. Class reps for 2018 and some of their helpers--Joe Martinez, 1958; Shirley Bailey Quinones and Liz Descant, 1968; Beverly Gilbert Chance, 1978; Ellen Glosup Tyree, 1988; Amanda Bealer, 1998; and Megan Cruz, 2008-- also attended the meeting.

It was announced that Homecoming will be on October 19 with the DeRidder Dragons as the opponent.

LHS will hold a coffee and meet-and-greet for alumni on Friday morning at 8:00. Then, alumni will attend and participate in the homecoming assembly in the LHS auditorium. The luncheon will be at the First Baptist Church CLC immediately after the assembly, with the parade on Third Street at 3:00. At 6:45 the 2018 Sports Hall of Fame inductee will be presented at Wampus Cat Stadium, and the football game will be at 7:00. Later that evening alumni will attend a dance for all alumni, not just those from the honored classes, at St. Michael's Center.

On Saturday, the alumni cookout will be downtown at the outdoor Polk Theatre.

Your class representatives want to hear from you. They need your help in getting in touch with grads from the "8" years.

We will post news on Facebook and on the website, www.wampusccats.org.

From Thursday night class socials through the golf tournament at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, there are lots of opportunities to reconnect with classmates.  If you are not already a member of the LHS Alumni Association, please consider joining.  Membership dues help us continue to make this the “best homecoming in the world” in addition to providing college scholarships to graduation seniors.  We are all working hard and are eagerly looking forward to an amazing LHS Homecoming 2018, so mark your calendars for Oct 19-20.  If you have any questions, feel free to call, email, or message us on Facebook.  GO WAMPUS CATS!

Homecoming Schedule

Friday, October 19, Coffee and Meet and Greet, Leesville High School, 8:00 a.m.

Assembly after the coffee, where the homecoming queen and court will be presented, the football team will be introduced, the alumni will present the 2018 Hall of Fame inductee, the 8 classes will perform skits, and a pep rally will fire up the team and the student body.

The Alumni Luncheon will be held at the First Baptist Church CLC immediately after the assembly.  Tickets are available at the morning coffee or at the door.  All who have attended the luncheon have had a great time—good food, awesome door prizes, informal fun and fellowship, and introduction of the Alumnus of the Year.  You will truly enjoy the luncheon.  The silent auction will be held at the luncheon.  Wendy had many noteworthy items for the auction last year and lots of excited buyers.

Parade is at 3:00.  The line-up will be given out at the luncheon.

After the parade, there will be a memorial service at the First Christian Church, remembering deceased classmates of the 8s (this is sponsored by the church, not by the alumni association).

Presentation of the 2018 Hall of Fame inductee will be at 6:45 at Wampus Cat Stadium.

Football game (opponent is the DeRidder Dragons) at 7:00.

Alumni Dance at St. Michael’s Center at 8:00.

Saturday, October 20, Cookout downtown, 11:00 a.m.  The food is great; the bands are definitely worth hearing.  You’ll be glad you participated in this.
