LHS Sports Hall of Fame 2012
Kevin Mawae, LHS Class of 1989 was the inaugural members of the LHS Sports Hall of Fame.

Kevin earned 4 varsity letters playing football at LHS and had a tremendously successful career as an athlete at the high school, college and professional levels. While at LHS, Kevin played for Coaches Jack Andre and Bernie Parmalee. He earned All-District honors twice and selected first team All-State as a lineman in 1988. Kevin was a 3 year starter and a foundation of one of the greatest periods of success in LHS history, helping the Cats win their way to the State Quarterfinals for 3 consecutive seasons. He blocked for famed running backs Eddie Fuller and Vincent Fuller and anchored a line that include all staters like Kevin Estep, Robert Jenkins and Raymond Smoot.
After high school, Mawae signed with LSU, where he earned varsity letters for 4 years and All-SEC honors twice. In 1993, he was drafted into the NFL by the Seattle Seahawks, where he began a 16 year professional career. He earned pro bowl honors multiple years and was known as one of the most reliable offensive linemen in the NFL.
He also played for the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans. Near the end of his career, he was honored by his fellow players when he was selected to lead the NFL Players’ Union, where he represented all NFL players on work conditions and other issues.
Retirement brought numerous accolades and honors for Kevin Mawae. Since leaving the NFL, he has been elected to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, in addition to being the first person selected for the Wampus Cat Hall.
Kevin and his wife live near Leesville and can be seen these days at Wampus Cat Stadium on Friday nights in the fall.
