Homecoming 1984

The 1984 Leesville High School Homecoming welcomed alumni, students, and community members back under the nostalgic theme “Yesterday – Once More.” This 11th edition of the program honored traditions that had long connected Wampus Cats across generations, while also highlighting the spirit and pride that continue to define Leesville High School. The weekend’s events offered opportunities for reconnection, celebration, and the building of new memories grounded in old friendships.

The festivities began on Friday, October 26, 1984, with registration at 8:00 a.m. at the high school. Alumni gathered soon after for coffee at 9:00 a.m., creating a warm and welcoming environment to reconnect with classmates and teachers. At 10:00 a.m., the annual assembly brought together students and alumni in a spirited program that celebrated the achievements and traditions of LHS. By 12:00 noon, the Holiday Inn hosted the Dutch Treat luncheon, a time for fellowship and storytelling among old friends.

That afternoon, the excitement spilled into the streets with the Homecoming Parade at 3:00 p.m. down Third Street, where honored classes proudly rode floats and the Wampus Cat spirit was on full display. The day reached its peak under the lights at 7:30 p.m. when the Wampus Cats faced Jennings High School at LHS Stadium. Alumni and students filled the stands, cheering on their team in a spirited contest that exemplified the pride and unity of Homecoming.

The celebration continued on Saturday, October 27, 1984, with a barbecue at 11:00 a.m. at Leesville City Park. Families and classmates gathered in a relaxed, outdoor setting to share laughter and enjoy the day together. That evening, the weekend concluded with the much-anticipated Alumni Dance from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the American Legion Hall. Music, dancing, and joyful reunions carried late into the night, providing a fitting close to a weekend that fully embraced the theme “Yesterday – Once More.” The 1984 Homecoming reminded all who attended of the traditions that continue to strengthen the bond between Leesville High School and its proud alumni community.
