Homecoming 1983
The 1983 Leesville High School Homecoming carried the patriotic and spirited theme “Football, Hotdogs, Apple Pie and LHS,” perfectly capturing the sense of pride and tradition that surrounded the weekend’s festivities. Alumni, students, and the Leesville community came together on November 4–5 to celebrate the Wampus Cat legacy with two days of events that honored the past and embraced the present.
The celebration began on Friday, November 4, 1983, with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the high school, followed by a coffee social at 9:00 a.m. that allowed alumni to reconnect with old friends and classmates. At 10:00 a.m., a spirited assembly brought the student body and returning alumni together in a display of school pride, highlighting both achievements and traditions. At 12:00 noon, the Holiday Inn hosted the annual Dutch Treat luncheon, where laughter and conversation flowed freely as alumni reminisced about their days at LHS.
That afternoon, excitement built as the Homecoming Parade rolled down Third Street at 3:00 p.m. Honored classes rode proudly on floats, the marching band filled the air with music, and community members lined the streets to show support. The energy carried into the evening, as the Wampus Cats faced Sam Houston High School in the Homecoming football game at 7:30 p.m. at LHS Stadium. With the stands packed full of cheering fans, the game embodied the heart of Homecoming—unity, pride, and a deep connection to Leesville High.
The celebration continued on Saturday, November 5, 1983, beginning with a barbecue at 11:00 a.m. at Leesville City Park, which provided a relaxed and family-friendly gathering for alumni and their families. The weekend concluded in style with the Alumni Dance at 9:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, where the Harmon Drew Group kept the crowd dancing late into the night. The 1983 Homecoming, with its timeless theme and unforgettable events, reminded everyone that the spirit of Leesville High is as enduring as the traditions that have united Wampus Cats for generations.
