The 1986 Leesville High School Homecoming was celebrated under the uplifting theme “Spirits Soar,” a fitting reflection of the pride and enthusiasm that filled the halls, streets, and stadium of Leesville. Alumni, students, and community members joined together on October 31 and November 1 for a two-day event that highlighted tradition, unity, and the enduring strength of Wampus Cat pride.
The celebration began on Friday, October 31, 1986, with registration at 8:30 a.m. at Leesville High School, where alumni were greeted warmly and welcomed back to their alma mater. A coffee social at 9:00 a.m. set the tone for the day, allowing returning graduates to reconnect with old friends and teachers. At 10:00 a.m., the annual assembly brought together alumni and current students for a spirited program that honored the rich legacy of LHS. By 12:30 p.m., the St. Michael’s Center hosted the Dutch Treat luncheon, giving alumni an opportunity to share laughter, stories, and fond memories over a meal.
That afternoon at 3:00 p.m., the streets of Leesville came alive with the Homecoming Parade. Floats carried honored classes, the band and spirit groups entertained the crowds, and the community gathered along Third Street to show their support. The day’s excitement culminated under the Friday night lights at 7:30 p.m., when the Wampus Cats faced Barbe High School in the Homecoming football game at LHS Stadium. Alumni and students alike filled the stands, cheering passionately for their team and reveling in the energy of the game.
The festivities continued on Saturday, November 1, 1986, beginning with a barbecue at 11:00 a.m. in Leesville City Park, which provided a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere for alumni and their loved ones. The weekend concluded with the much-anticipated Alumni Dance at 9:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, where classmates and friends came together for an evening of music, dancing, and celebration. With its uplifting theme and joyful spirit, the 1986 Homecoming lived up to its promise that indeed, at Leesville High School, “Spirits Soar.”
