LHS Sports Hall of Fame 2025

Terry Holt

Terry Holt was a talented, multi-sport athlete at LHS who left LHS as a record holder in track and a trail blazer in football.

In football, Holt earned 4 varisty letters, coming on the scene as a freshman and leaving as a senior as the school standard-bearer for total yards from scrimmage. Terry was an exciting running back who compiled over 3,000 yards on the ground and setting the (then) school record for rushing. In his junior year, he led the Cats to one of only two winning seasons for the program in the 1970s, missing the elusive state playoffs by a single game. Holt earned first team All-District 3 years in a row as a running back while playing for Hall of Fame Head Coach Richard Schwartz.

In track and field, he earned 3 varsity letters and earned All-American and All-State status in his junior year. At the AAA State Track Meet in 1978, he was part of 3 relay teams that propelled the Cats to the school’s first-ever team title. His 880 relay set the state, national and meet records at the meet with blistering time of 1:25.9. The mile relay team set the AAA record with a time of 3:17. The 440 relay ran a gold medal winning time of 41.7.

In basketball, Terry earned 2 varsity letters, playing for Coach Michael Mallet and was a key contributor to two playoff teams—in 1977 and 1978.

After high school, holt earned an opportunity to play football at the collegiate level for the University of Southwestern Louisiana.
