The 1980 Leesville High School Homecoming was a weekend filled with school pride, tradition, and camaraderie, held under the theme “Moments to Remember.” Alumni, students, and the Leesville community gathered together to celebrate the bonds that unite generations of Wampus Cats. From the opening morning coffee to the grand Alumni Dance, the program offered cherished opportunities to reconnect with classmates and honor the legacy of Leesville High School.
The festivities began on Friday, October 17, 1980, with registration at 8:30 a.m. in the halls of Leesville High School. Alumni enjoyed a coffee social at 9:00 a.m., a time for friends to greet one another and share stories of years gone by. At 10:00 a.m., the assembly brought alumni and current students together in a celebration of spirit, pride, and tradition. By 12:00 noon, the Holiday Inn hosted the Dutch Treat luncheon, giving alumni another opportunity to gather over a meal and enjoy fellowship before the afternoon’s main events.
At 3:00 p.m., the excitement moved downtown for the Homecoming Parade on Third Street, featuring floats, the band, and honored classes riding proudly. Families and community members lined the streets to cheer as the parade passed, creating a colorful and spirited atmosphere. Later that evening, at 7:30 p.m., the LHS Stadium filled with energy as the Wampus Cats faced Oakdale in the Homecoming football game. The stands rang with cheers, uniting alumni and students in a thrilling evening under the lights.
The celebration continued into Saturday, October 18, 1980, with a barbecue at 11:00 a.m. in Leesville City Park. Alumni and families enjoyed a relaxed setting that blended food, laughter, and warm fellowship. The weekend concluded in style with the Alumni Dance from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the National Guard Armory, where the Harmon Drew Band provided music for a night of dancing and joy. These moments truly lived up to the theme “Moments to Remember,” as the 1980 Homecoming created lasting memories that highlighted both the traditions of the past and the spirit of the future for Leesville High School.
