Leesville High School

Alumni Association

September 27, 2020

Hi there, All You Wampus Cat Alumni,

It’s finally here—What You’ve Been Waiting For—Homecoming News! The revised Homecoming date is Friday, November 13.

The Wampus Cats will be hosting Northwood High School of Shreveport.

Sorry it has taken so long to update you. We are just this week getting needed information.

Ray Ortiz, Executive Board President, has stayed in touch with Mark Mawae, LHS Principal, throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic. Homecoming plans are being made, with the school and the alumni association adhering to the Phase 3 rules currently in effect for Louisiana.

As most of you know, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) guides the schools relative to the playing of sports. The LHSAA has given its OK for a limited number of football games, with limited fan seating in stadiums. This is based on current Phase 3 guidelines.

Meanwhile, your alumni association is going with Homecoming events as closely as possible to traditional activities, with the stipulation that plans might have to be changed at any time. Stay tuned to Facebook for revisions.

The honored classes are expected to present a five-minute skit at the assembly; each class can have a float in the parade. Class reps will have info on this.

Football Game: If any tickets are available, they can be bought at LHS on Friday morning, November 3. Seating in the stadium is limited because of the governor’s current social distancing rules. As of this writing (September 27, 2020), we assume that those rules will still be in effect on November 13.

The family cookout (hamburgers) will be at Leesville City Park on Saturday. Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the coffee on Friday morning, at the gate to the Park or through the PayPal link below.

Commemorative bricks are still being sold. They can be ordered at the coffee ($35). If you come to Homecoming, please be sure to see the already installed bricks on the walkway into the main office. A form to order bricks through PayPal is available on on
HOME page. Bricks for this year are no longer available; the deadline for ordering bricks for 2021 is July 1.

Cookbooks can be purchased ($20, $25 if mailed) at the coffee or on the
HOME page. The cookbook is made of recipes submitted by LHS alumni.

The golf tournament will be on Saturday morning at the Leesville Municipal Golf Course. Entry fee is $50/person. Entry fees can be paid at registration or using the PayPal link below. The entry fee includes lunch. It will be a four-person scramble, with registration beginning at 9:00 a.m and tee-off at 10 a.m. Two people can ride together in a cart if they sign a waiver required by the golf course.
The alumni association still has hole sponsorships available for $100. If you would like to sponsor a hole, please private message this FB page.

All alumni are invited and encouraged to attend the homecoming events. You do not have to be a member of a “Zero” class to join us for alumni activities. If you have attended LHS Homecoming before, you know how much fun it is; if you haven’t joined us, you have missed some exciting and enjoyable times. Please come.

This page will have updated information whenever it becomes available. Please know that plans can be changed at any time, dependent upon the governor’s Covid-19 guidelines.
